Film synopsis

Set around a grieving widow who seeks comfort with her in-laws after the loss of her husband, the story wastes little time before descending into absolute chaos. As the supernatural curse once again unleashes the terrifying Deadites, Evil Dead Burn crafts an original story that feels fresh while remaining unmistakably faithful to the franchise’s identity. It successfully ties into Evil Dead Rise (2023) without depending on nostalgia or requiring audiences to revisit previous installments. Newcomers can easily jump into this chapter, although longtime fans will certainly appreciate the subtle connections and clever references hidden throughout the film. Be sure to keep an eye on the picture frames hanging throughout the house, you may spot a fun surprise.

Following his excellent work on the 2023 French horror film Infested (Vermines), Vanicek once again demonstrates why he can become one of the most exciting voices in modern horror. His confident direction shines through impressive camera movements, creative angles, and dynamic cinematography. Once the action begins, Evil Dead Burn barely gives viewers a chance to breathe. Despite becoming the longest film in the franchise at one hour and fifty minutes, its pacing rarely feels sluggish thanks to an engaging plot. The film perfectly balances its darker emotional moments with the twisted sense of humor that has always defined the Evil Dead series.

The practical effects deserve special recognition. Rather than relying heavily on computer-generated imagery, the film embraces gruesome practical makeup and gore effects that feel tangible, disgusting, and incredibly effective. This is absolutely not a movie for the faint of heart or anyone with a weak stomach, as it consistently pushes the boundaries of graphic violence.

The performances across the cast are equally solid. Every actor delivers convincing work that allows viewers to emotionally invest in the characters, whether you’re rooting for their survival or eagerly awaiting their inevitable downfall. Complementing the carnage is an outstanding score by French electronic duo Double Danger, whose haunting and energetic soundtrack adds another layer of intensity throughout the film.

Although the first act takes a little longer than expected to fully settle into its rhythm, Evil Dead Burn quickly recovers and becomes another strong addition to one of horror’s most consistently entertaining franchises. Bloody, intense, and endlessly fun, it proves that the Evil Dead universe still has plenty of life, and death, left in it.

Evil Dead Burn is now available in theaters.
